Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I think that Martin Luther King Jr. was an incredible person. He devoted his life to stand up for what he thought was right. He was a leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement and He was also a major part of many nonviolent protests as well as helping lead the fight for desegregation and equal rights. In 1964 he was the youngest person ever to win a noble peace prize at the age of thirty five. Martin Luther King Jr. did so many things in his life for other people even though it ended him in jail and his house being bombed. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, a dream that racism and segregation against African-Americans would finally stop and he did many things in his power to try to stop them.

Martin Luther King jr made a huge impact on life today. Martin Luther King Jr fought for blacks to have rights in our country. I think that everything he did really changed how the world is today. Yes, there is still a lot of racism but I feel like blacks and people of other skin colors are more respected and treated like everyone else today. He risked his life to stand up for what he  believed in and a lot of people agreed with him. I feel like because of all the actions that Mr.King did, he changed the opinions that many people had on people of different races.  Because of the actions of Mr.King, many laws have changed too. There used to be many laws such as that black people couldn't drink from the same drinking fountains as whites, eat in the same restaurants, and even sit in the same section of the buses. Since Martin Luther King Jr stood up for what he believed in, things have changed today. If Mr. King had not have stood up for what he believed in, I think that we would still have a lot of segregation in the world today. Mr. King also believed that we should serve for our community, he thought of the less fortunate and believed that  should help others you don't have everything they need. I think that this has influenced the world today because of all the fun raisers and donations many people make today.

The science article that I choose to report on is called:
New "horned" snake species discovered. It is from sciencedailey.com

Matilda's Horned Viper.

This is the link to the article:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/01/120109145903.htm

This article is about a man named Tim Davenport who is the director of Wildlife Conservation Society Tanzania Program. He recently discovered an amazing black and yellow colored viper snake from an area in East Africa. He named the snake Matilda's horned Viper, in honor of his seven year old daughter Matilda.  The Matilda's horned Viper is about two feet in length and has scales that look like horns above its green eyes.  The snake could be of interest to illegal pet collectors so the authors studying the snake are keeping the exact location of the new species a secret. The Matilda's horned viper is expected to be classified as very endangered and to have already established a small breeding colony.

Comparison on cell phones:

1. Verizon Wireless Droid 3 by Motorola
I think this is a really cool phone because it has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen. It also had a fast 8.0 MP camera, a front facing camera for video chat, full internet browser, 16 GB of internal memory for emails, text messages, and applications. I would buy this phone because it has a touch screen and a full keyboard. I don't like phones that are just touch screens because I think its hard to type on them. I also like this phone because its cute too. Black is one of my favorite colors :)

2. AT&T Apple Iphone 4S- 16 GB
Everyone thinks that Iphones are so cool but personally I wouldn't want one. They are so expensive and fragile. I would be afraid that I would break it easily. It is also completely touch screen and as I said before I don't like typing on touch screens. This phone also has a 8.0 MP camera, a front facing camera and 16 GB of internal memory. I would pick the other phone over this one mostly because I would want a full keyboard.

My break from school was pretty good. I started working at Acapulco on December 21st, a few days before break so I was training in at work a lot during break. On christmas day my step sisters, Laura and Julie flew from New Jersey to Minnesota to spend christmas with us. It was my first time meeting them and it was kind of weird. They are both really spoiled and don't take anything seriously. I was glad that I was working a lot during break so I didn't have to see them a lot. I didn't really do anything else on break besides sleep in a lot. On some days I would sleep in till like five at night.

A song that sums up my break is Breath by Pink Floyd. This song sums up my break because it is a really relaxing song and I enjoyed relaxing and sleeping in during break.

There are several new Minnesota state laws that are taking affect as of January 1st, 2012. Some of which are:

-Nursing home reimbursement rate formula changes.
This means that the new rates will be based on an updated minimum dataset or any new version mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that nursing facilities are required to complete for all residents. The new law also states that the health commissioner shall establish resident classes according to updated resource utilization groups.

-Donation for anatomical gift program
This means that in addition to being asked if they want to be an organ donor, people applying for a driver’s license or state identification card will be asked to contribute $2.00 to a donor awareness campaign. The same question will be posed when registering and transferring title on a motor vehicle. The money from donations will be used as grants to federally certified organ procurement organizations and nonprofit organizations that advocate for organ and tissue donation.

I feel like It is a good idea to ask people if they would like to donate money to a donor awareness campaign. I'm a organ donor on my permit and I feel other people who are as well would want to donate a little money to an awareness campaign supporting organ donors.
